Introduction

BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association (BCLCA) web sites www.lodging.bc.ca, www.camping.bc.ca and www.travel-british-columbia.com are designed to help people find information about travel and vacation experiences in British Columbia.

Your privacy is important to BCLCA. This policy tells you what information BCLCA gathers about you, how BCLCA would use it, to whom BCLCA may disclose it, how you can opt out of the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information, and how to get access to the information BCLCA may have about you.

What is Personal Information?

Personal Information is any information about an “identifiable individual” including information regarding ethnic background, religion, marital status, medical, employment, and education. Information published publicly such as listed telephone number, address and name is not considered to be personal information.

Collecting Information

When someone visits our web sites, our web server automatically collects a limited amount of standard information essential to the operation, security and evaluation of the BCLCA web sites. This information helps us to make our sites more useful to visitors and includes:

  • the Internet domain and Internet Protocol (IP) address from computers that access our web site,
  • the type of browser and operating system used to access our site,
  • the date and time our site is accessed,
  • the pages visited,
  • the address of any external web sites linked to, and
  • any content downloaded from our site.

While some of this information (e.g. browser type and operating system) does not identify who people are, other information, such as Internet domain names or the IP addresses of Internet service providers may provide identification. The extent of personal identification depends on the 'naming standards' followed by the Internet service provider. You may wish to check with your provider to inquire about their policies and practices in this regard. BCLCA does not use this information to identify individuals who visit our web site unless required to do so as part of an internal investigation or other law enforcement purpose.

BCLCA's contact us form on the web sites asks for information such as name, address, phone number, e-mail address, web site, interests and preferences. We may also collect the information from you directly, or from a member of your family via telephone, in person, by mail, by fax or by e-mail. BCLCA stores this information in written form or electronically. By providing this information to us, you enable us to serve you. Consumers often provide us with their contact information so that BCLCA can mail them a copy of our Super Camping BC directory, which they have requested.

Using Information

BCLCA uses the information collected to fulfill your requests, to perform market research, to promote our association's consumer products, and to provide further information to you about our members and our province. We will retain your personal information only for as long as required by law or as necessary for the purposes for which it is collected. Your personal information will not be used for other purposes without your consent.

Disclosing Information

BCLCA will not disclose any personal information collected about you to anybody else, unless required to do so by law, except when we provide the information to firms we retain to assist us in forwarding additional information to you. BCLCA will not otherwise sell, transfer or trade any mailing list, which includes your information.

BCLCA will comply with all laws, which require us to supply the information to government agencies and others.

Retention of Information

Information will be held only as long as it is required to fulfill service obligations. Once information is no longer required it will be disposed of or made anonymous.
Keeping Information Secure

BCLCA endeavours to keep written information in a secure place. The office is locked and alarmed when closed. Information that is stored electronically, is password-protected and available only to those members of our staff who require it.
